New diamond academy planned for Kimberley

A new diamond and jewellery academy is to be established in Kimberley, in the Northern Cape, according to a new report.

The Northern Cape Department of Economic Affairs is reported to have announced the plans earlier this week, according to a report on Engineering News Online.

The department is believed to have asked service providers to submit tenders for the supply, delivery and assembly of diamond cutting and polishing equipment.

The closing date for tender submissions is in two weeks, on Monday June 22, and the tenders will be adjudicated in terms of the preferential procurement policy framework Act.

It is thought that the provincial government wants to establish the academy as soon as possible.
