Mission

To deliver quality services and promote development in our municipal area in a non-sexist, non-racial and non-discriminating manner. We do this by creating a climate of cooperative governance with meaningful partnerships with all stakeholders, especially the members of the general public.

Main towns

Emthanjeni Municipality comprises the towns of De Aar, Hanover and Britstown. De Aar is the administrative seat of the municipality and the third-largest town in the Northern Cape. It is centrally located on the main railway line between Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Namibia. The junction is the second-most important
railway junction in South Africa.

Hanover lies approximately 65km east of De Aar on the N1, while Britstown is situated about 55km west of De Aar on the N12. Both these main routes link Johannesburg and Cape Town.
