Department of Justice and Constitutional Development

Galeshewe Magistrate's Court
The new R48-million Magistrate's Court in Galeshewe, Kimberley, is due for completion in October 2009.

The Galeshewe Magistrate's Court is being built with the aim of achieving the following strategic departmental goals:

  • Access to justice for all, especially the poor and the vulnerable in townships and in rural areas
  • Enhancing organisational efficiency and integration of quality justice services to make them simpler, faster and more cost effective
  • Transforming justice, state and society in line with the democratic values of the constitution

The upgrading of old court buildings and the construction of new courts are two of the ways the department aims to achieve these strategic goals. We are therefore happy to announce that the construction of the new court in Galeshewe, Kimberley, to the tune of R48-million is well under way and is envisaged to be completed by October 2009.

The Galeshewe Magistrate's Court will be a big step towards achieving these goals, especially improving access to services, as the community of Galeshwe and surrounding areas will no longer have to travel to town to access justice services.
